New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee convened a meeting on Wednesday to reach an agreement on fielding a joint candidate in the presidential race against the NDA. According to sources, the Aam Aadmi Party has chosen to skip the conference.

"The Aam Aadmi Party will not attend the meeting of opposition parties on the Presidential Elections scheduled for today. The topic will be considered by the AAP only after the Presidential candidate has been announced "On Wednesday, sources stated.

Banerjee met with Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), at his Mumbai home on Tuesday to try to persuade him to run for the top constitutional seat as the common opposition candidate. Pawar, on the other hand, has declined the offer, according to sources in the Opposition camp.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is in the national capital for a meeting to discuss the possibilities of forming a joint presidential campaign strategy with other opposition parties.

Several opposition leaders will attend a conference organised by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday to discuss Presidential elections and how to oppose the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance together. 

On July 18, presidential elections will be held, and the results will be announced on July 21.
