NEW DELHI: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has decided to skip the non-BJP party meeting held by Trinamul Congress president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Delhi on Wednesday to discuss nominating a joint Opposition candidate for the Presidential election.

After a five-hour meeting with senior party leaders at Pragathi Bhavan, TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) made the decision. The party stated it was skipping the meeting because the Congress would be there, and that it wanted to remain equidistant from both the Congress and the BJP.

Banerjee arrived in Delhi on Tuesday, and the Congress, among other parties such as the CPI and the CPI(M), confirmed that they will be attending the meeting.

T.R. Baalu of the DMK, Subhash Desai of the Shiv Sena, Jayant Chaudhary of the RLD, and Mehbooba Mufti of the RLD have all confirmed their participation.

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, and also Hemant Soren, the head of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and the state's chief minister will attend. Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, will  also be present at the meeting. The meeting will be attended by representatives from the Left parties, not the senior leadership.
