Sonitpur:  A fifty-year-old man has been booked for allegedly raping a girl two years ago, police said on Sunday. The accused identified as Rafiqul Islam had raped a teenage girl in his house in Lama village in Sonitpur district in August 2021, police said.

"The arrested culprit was identified as 50-year-old Rafiqul Islam. He allegedly raped the  girl at Professor Colony Lama village under Dhekiajuli police station in Sonitpur district 2 years ago and after committing the crime he was absconding,' police said.

Chanakya Das, a police officer in the Sonitpur district, said the suspect was apprehended on Saturday night close to the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.

"A case was filed to the Dhekiajuli police station two years ago. We made attempts to apprehend the culprit, who was apprehended by police last night. He will be brought before the judge, the policeman said.

The victim girl's family filed a report at the Dhekiajuli police station, and on the basis of that complaint, an accusation against the accused Rafiqul Islam was made, police added.
