JAIPUR: A man accused of sodomising a child who was mentally retarded was given a 20-year prison term by a POCSO court in Jaisalmer. The court also fined Shravan Ram alias Samaram Rs 25,000 in its ruling from Tuesday.
According to Jaisalmer SP Bhanwar Singh Nathawat, in February, after spotting the mentally disabled boy by himself, Shravan Ram took him to a remote location and sodomised him.
He warned the minor with grave consequences if he reported the offence to anybody after committing it.
When the terrified boy returned home, he told his mother about the incident, and she reported it to Ramdevra police station.
The case was lodged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO)Act. The team of SP Nathawat apprehended the suspect within four days, assembled hard evidence, and filed a chargesheet against him in POCSO court.
As both the parties are from the same village, the case was selected under the Case Officer Scheme. Statements were made by the police officer by presenting all the witnesses in the court on time.
