New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday for launching the 'Ayushman Bharat Yojana,' saying it had become a lifeline for the country's underprivileged.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi did the work of providing health security to more than 10 crore families through the 'Ayushman Bharat Yojana,'" Mandaviya wrote on Twitter. "Under this scheme, up to Rs. 5 lakh in treatment is being provided free of charge. This programme has proven to be a lifeline for the country's poorer citizens," he said.

PM Modi spoke at a public meeting in Shimla earlier today as part of the 'Garib Kalyan Sammelan,' during which he also announced the release of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme's 11th instalment.

PM Modi had earlier engaged with beneficiaries of various government schemes at an event commemorating the BJP's eighth year in power and the 'Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.' Ridge Maidan in Shimla hosted the event. During the Sammelan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi solicited feedback from public representatives from throughout the country on the government's many social programmes.

Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana is a national public health insurance scheme of the India govt that targets to offer free access to health insurance coverage for low-income earners in India.
