He lost his younger brother at a very young age. Manoj Kumar had lost his temper and was beaten up. He had to eat police poles during the period. When things went too high, his father swore to him that he would never be beaten. Manoj Kumar was awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1992. In 2015, he was also honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for his contribution to films.
