Ujjain: A 2-day national webinar on “Early identification and early intervention for children with deafblindness and causes in Indian society’’ concluded at Manovikas College of Special Education (MCSE) on Friday. It was approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India as CRE programme. In the inaugural session Dr. Prem Chhabra, academic director, MCSE welcomed chairperson Dr Govind Gandhe, member executive council, Vikram University and chief guest Dr Akhil Paul director, Sense International India, Ahmedabad.

The inauguration session started with silent prayer. Resource person for day one Krupa Velani, project coordinator Blind People Association, Ahmedabad, spoke on “Introduction to deafblindness and multiple disabilities and explained about pre-natal, natal and post-natal causes of and ways and means to prevent it. In the second session, Sachin Rizwal, head, capacity building Sense International India, Ahmedabad delivered a lecture on “Early intervention and identification. He explained about communication skills and basic concept learning of child in its early age. In the third session, Deepak Krishna Sharma, manager, networking, Sense International India, Ahmedabad explained the impact of sensory loss on the development and growth of children with deafblindness.

The last session of the first day was addressed by Dr Aakash Ware, audiologist and speech-language pathologist. He spoke on high-risk factors associated with hearing loss. Second day’s proceedings started with the lecture of Vimalben Thawani, project director, Blind People Association, Ahmedabad on psycho-social impacts and needs of multiple disabilities and deaf-blindness. Srijan Singh of MCSE explained the need for proper nutrition for children with disabilities.
