NEW DELHI: Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister on Monday participated in a cyclothon organised by the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) in the National Capital.

The bicycle rally with the theme "Save Earth, Save Life" started from Nirman Bhawan and traversed through Kartavya Path. A number of cycling enthusiasts were part of this early winter morning cyclothon, looking forward to encourage physical activities.

Mandaviya, the cyclothon's leader, urged participants to use bicycles to promote health and fitness. He appreciated the spirit of the participants who joined the awareness rally in spite of the cold weather.

"A bicycle can significantly help to address environmental issues as it is a no-pollution vehicle. Many developed countries are using cycles on a large scale, while in India it is known as a poor-man's vehicle. It should be our aim to transform this into a rich man's vehicle. It needs to be a 'passion' instead of 'fashion'," Mandaviya said on the occasion.

"Let's include cycling in our lives for a healthy and green Earth." Mandaviya emphasised the value of riding and exercise in her statement "Exercise should be ingrained in our life for both physical and emotional advantages. Many non-communicable and lifestyle diseases are known to be prevented by engaging in physical activity ".

The NBEMS "Go-Green" initiative and proactive participation in health promotion and environmental protection were also praised by the health minister.

Abhijat Sheth, the president of NBEMS, and other members of the governing body accompanied Mandaviya. The officials and employees of NBEMS also participated.
