New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Wednesday issued a statement against inter-religious marriages urging Muslim youths to take a nikah within the Muslim community. AIMPLB says marriage between Muslims and non-Muslims is considered haram as per Sharia law of Islam. At the same time, it is religiously wrong.

Acting General Secretary of AIMPLB Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani has appealed to Muslim youth, parents of alimony, and Muslim children in this regard. In a press note, the Board has termed marriage to non-Muslim as a wrong trend and said that if a Muslim marries a non-Muslim, he will continue to do wrong for a long time. According to the board, the biggest reason why people who are getting married outside the Muslim religion is that their Ammi-Abbu has not taught them, Islam, properly. The Board has also appealed to religious leaders and Ammi-Abbu of Muslim children to persuade their children to take a nikah in the community itself.

In a statement, the Board said that there have been several incidents where Muslim girls married non-Muslims and later suffered. Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani has also requested Islamic leaders to regularly raise the issue regarding the damage caused by inter-religious marriages. AIMPLB has requested Muslim parents not to marry and delay their children at an early age, especially in the case of girls. The board said, "Delay in marriage is also a major cause of such inter-religious marriages.''
