Kenya's Capital Nairobi witnessed a catastrophic event as a gas truck explosion tore through the city, leaving devastation in its wake. More than 200 individuals have been reported injured, with authorities bracing for a rise in the death toll, which currently stands at three. Isaac Mwaura, a government spokesman, expressed grave concerns, noting that several residents were likely caught unaware as the flames engulfed their homes during the late hours of Thursday night.

The explosion, triggered by a gas-laden truck of unknown registration, unleashed a massive fireball, incinerating everything in its path. Among the casualties was the Oriental Godown, a warehouse specializing in garments and textiles, which fell victim to a flying gas cylinder propelled by the force of the blast.

The Mradi area of Embakasi, a Nairobi neighborhood, bore the brunt of the inferno, with multiple vehicles and businesses suffering extensive damage. As the clock approached 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, chaos erupted, and emergency services scrambled to contain the raging flames.

Despite swift response efforts, the Kenya Red Cross confirmed three fatalities, a figure that may surge as dawn breaks over the city. Wesley Kimeto, the police chief of Embakasi, emphasized the severity of the situation, urging caution as rescue operations continue.

According to government sources, a staggering 222 individuals have been admitted to hospitals for treatment, with the Kenya Red Cross reporting an even higher count of over 270 injuries. As Kenya grapples with the aftermath of this tragedy, attention turns towards supporting the affected communities and preventing such incidents in the future.
