Hyderabad: Megastar Chiranjeevi has shared an anecdote from his life when he felt 'humiliated'. Recently, a video has gone viral in which Chiranjeevi talks about an incident of 1989, referring to that humiliating period. Addressing the pre-release event of the film Acharya in Delhi, actor Chiranjeevi revealed that he was called to Delhi in 1989 as his film Rudraveni was being awarded the Nargis Dutt Award.

Chiranjeevi said that a day before the award show, the government organised a high tee during which he (Chiranjeevi) was taking a walk in a hall showcasing the history of Indian cinema. He remembered that from Prithviraj Kapoor to Amitabh Bachchan on the wall,  were painted with a brief description in relation to him. Chiranjeevi said, "I was moving forward in the hope of seeing something on south films. However, a picture of MGR and Prem Nazir with Jayalalithaa was there. He called it South Cinema. Even they didn't recognize Raj Kumar or Vishnuvardhan, NT Rama Rao, Nageswara Rao, Sivaji Ganesan, and even the legendary filmmakers of our film industry. At that moment I felt quite humiliated. It was like an insult. Hindi cinema as Indian cinema. While other films were classified as 'regional films' and were not given any respect.''

Chiranjeevi further said that he had spoken in this regard even then, but there was no response. However, with Baahubali or RRR, he feels proud that the country is now recognising directors, actors and writers of South India. He said films have broken regional barriers and respectfully received the tag of being an all-India film. "Baahubali made me proud because it demolished the barrier between regional and Hindi cinema and proved that we are all part of the Indian film industry. These films have made the Telugu audience proud. Hats off to SS Rajamouli for giving us films like Baahubali and RRR. They will always be remembered.''

Along with this, Chiranjeevi gave Rajamouli the tag of 'God of Indian Cinema'. Chiranjeevi also praised Yash's KGF 2 and Allu Arjun's Pushpa. He said that with the success of these films, many actors including Prabhas have become all-India actors today. Chiranjeevi also spoke about how SS Rajamouli is also one of the reasons why a film like Acharya might be possible. Chiranjeevi's role was first offered to his son. He also revealed that his first offer to play in Acharya was given to his son Ram Charan.
