BENGALURU: Basavaraj Bommai, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, termed the Tamil Nadu government's letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi opposing the Mekedatu project "illegal" on Tuesday.

CM Bommai described it as an act against the spirit of federalism, saying: "Tamil Nadu is plotting to prevent the state from using our (Karnataka) share of water. Their desire should not be taken into account by the union administration "he said. "I am confident that justice will be served. The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) has been requested to approve the Mekedatu project's DPR. Several meetings have taken place in this regard. The final meeting will be held as soon as possible "said the chief minister.

At this point, Tamil Nadu has started causing problems with the Mekedatu project. "Tamil Nadu's letter to PM Modi will be delivered to me. With Tamil Nadu's share of water, we have not moved on with the Mekedatu "he stated
The Mekedatu project is being implemented with Karnataka's portion of water. He stated that the initiative is being undertaken within the state of Karnataka. There have been 15 meetings so far, and Tamil Nadu has not objected to any of them. CM Bommai remarked that they are now conducting a political ruse.

Tamil Nadu has been engaging in political stunts over the years, he claims, and mailing a letter to Prime Minister Modi protesting Karnataka's Mekedatu project is one of them.
