New Delhi: A member of the Himanshu Bhau gang met his demise in an encounter in the National Capital, as confirmed by police authorities. According to an official from the Delhi Police Special Cell, Ajay, known as Goli, a member of the Himanshu Bhau gang, was killed during an encounter with the Delhi Police and criminals. The encounter took place in Rohini Sector 29 of the Shahbad Dairy Police Station area, carried out by the Counter Intelligence Unit of the Special Cell, officials added.

Goli was implicated in a shooting incident at a car showroom in Tilak Nagar. Additionally, one of his associates was apprehended by the Crime Branch at Kolkata Airport, police sources revealed. Furthermore, Abhishek, also known as Churan, an active member of the Himanshu @ Bhau-Naveen Bali gang, was arrested. At the time of his arrest, police recovered a .32 bore pistol along with 6 live cartridges. A case under relevant legal provisions has been filed against him.

Prior to his arrest, Abhishek had provided shelter to Himanshu @ Bhau before the latter's escape. He had a criminal record, being previously involved in four cases of murder, attempted murder, criminal intimidation, and Arms Act violations in Delhi and Haryana, police disclosed. The police received information indicating that members of the notorious criminal Himanshu alias Bhau's gang were engaged in extortion activities in Delhi and the NCR, resorting to gunfire in cases of refusal. Pursuing Himanshu's active involvement, specific intelligence was received on May 10, 2024, suggesting that a criminal named Abhishek was in possession of an illegal weapon in Vijay Nagar.

Consequently, a team from the Special Cell/NDR was assembled, and a raid was conducted. Upon encountering the police, Abhishek attempted to fire at the police team but was subdued and disarmed by the team. During interrogation, Abhishek, alias Churan, revealed that he had graduated from Khalsa College in Delhi. Following his father's demise, he became associated with criminal elements in his locality. In 2015, while pursuing his graduation, he was involved in an assault and quarrel case registered at PS Alipur, Delhi. Subsequently, in 2018, he was arrested under the Arms Act at PS Bawana, Delhi, for brandishing a pistol to assert dominance in the area, according to an official statement released on Friday.
