Merciless cold waves engulf Punjab, Haryana; Hisar recorded coldest temprature at 1.6 deg C

Chandigarh: Hisar in Haryana mercury dipped at 1.6 degrees Celsius as merciless cold wave intensifies in the state and neighboring Punjab on Sunday.

It may be noted that Hisar, where minimum temperature settled five notches below normal, was the coldest place in the two states. On the other hand Karnal also experienced the chilly waves at 2 degrees Celsius, which is down three notches, Meteorological (MeT) Department officials stated here. Narnaul and Rohtak also recorded below normal the same minimum temperatures of 3 degrees each. Ambala and Sirsa also registered below normal identical lows at 4.4 degrees Celsius each. Meanwhile Bhiwani's minimum temperature settled at 4.6 degrees.

It is also mentioned here Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states has the chill at 4 degrees Celsius, down two degrees against normal limits and in Punjab, Gurdaspur recorded a low of 2.4 degrees which was the coldest place while Ludhiana, too, experienced a cold night having 2.8 degrees Celsius. Patiala's minimum temperature settled at 3.4 degrees, down three notches against normal. Adampur, which was the coldest place in the state on Saturday recorded a sub-zero temperature. It registered a slight increase in minimum at 2.5 degrees Celsius, although it was still below the normal limits.

The MeT officials stated that fog reduced visibility near the beginning of Sunday morning at many places including Hisar, Karnal, Bhiwani, Ludhiana and Patiala.
