New Delhi:- At least in the case of user interaction on threads and meta, what appeared should drop again. Twitter's newest competitor.

Last week, the text-based social media platform reported a record number of 100 million sign-ups in just five days, but data from Sensor Tower and Similarweb show that the service's growth and engagement are growing. shows some decline.

"The launch of Threads really destroyed the internet, or at least the Sensor Tower model," Anthony Bartolacci, chief executive of marketing intelligence firm Sensor Tower, told CNBC. “In his 10+ years of estimating app installs for Sensor Tower, his first 72 hours of the thread were truly exceptional.”

However, he added that Sensor Tower data shows a significant drop in user interaction since the introduction of threads. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the number of daily active users of the platform decreased by about 20% compared to Saturday, and users' dwell time decreased by 50% from 20 minutes to 10 minutes.

“These early results show that despite the excitement at launch, Threads still has a steep climb to make its place in most users’ everyday social networking,” said Bartolacci. “Metasupport and integration with Instagram will likely bring more flow to Threads than other services, but it needs a more compelling value proposition than simply ‘Twitter without Elon Musk.”

A similar trend was observed in data from Similarweb, a digital data and analytics company. In Threads, between its peak on July 7 and Monday, Threads users on Android smartphones worldwide saw a drop of more than 25% of his daily active users. The company has yet to finish calibrating the model with iOS data.

Adam Mosseri, Meta's head of Instagram and Threads, has made it clear that he will not prioritize news or politics on the new platform, which means it may not work as a full Twitter replacement for some power users.

"Politics and hard news will inevitably appear on threads, including Instagram, but we are not going to do anything to promote these industries," Mosseri wrote in the thread. “For meta to grow to the size of Twitter, just one in four Instagram users with a monthly thread is enough,” Jasmine Enberg, principal analyst at Insider Intelligence, said in a statement.

"Some of the engagement that Threads has enjoyed seems to have been siphoned directly from Twitter," Similarweb's Carr told CNBC. “During the first few days of peak Threads activity last Thursday and Friday, Twitter web traffic was down about 5% compared to the same days last week. Admittedly, these are very early indicators, but they do indicate that Threads could take significant usage away from Twitter, especially as the Threads app team begins adding missing features like hashtags and topic search.”
