Mid-noon Market Updates: Sensex rises 610 pts, IT stocks gain

The key indices of the Indian stock market, the Sensex and Nifty, gained about 1 percent on Monday, boosted by strong buying interest in banking and IT firms. Despite the ongoing uncertainty and tension between Russia and Ukraine, the Indian stock market began the week on a high note.

The Sensex opened in the green at 55,614.40 points and climbed to a high of 56,128.72 points towards the end of the day. The BSE Sensex was 610 points, or 1.10 percent, higher at 56,160 points at 12:55 p.m., compared to its previous session's finish of 55,550.30 points. The National Stock Exchange's broader Nifty 50 index was trading 142.90 points, or 0.86 percent, higher at 16,773 points, compared to its previous session's close of 16,630.45 points. In IT, banking, and financial stocks, there was a lot of purchasing interest.

Infosys' stock increased 2.65 percent to Rs 187020. Wipro's stock climbed 2 percent to Rs 597.90. HCL Technologies is now trading at Rs 1210.50, up 1.42 percent. Tech Mahindra was trading 0.97 percent higher. The stock of State Bank of India increased by 2.57 percent to Rs 482.50. At Rs 1432.40, HDFC Bank was trading 2.53 percent higher. The stock of ICICI Bank rose by 2.43 percent to Rs 694.50. At Rs 703.55, Axis Bank was trading 1.83 percent higher.

Fourteen of the Sensex's thirty stocks were in the red. Sensex losers included Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, and Power Grid Corporation.
