New Delhi: The Central Government has given very important information in Parliament on the deaths in police custody in the country. The Central Government has informed that more than 300 people have died in police custody in the last three years and thousands of people have been tortured. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in the Lower House of Parliament on Tuesday that 348 people have died in police custody in different parts of the country during the last three years.

At the same time, 1,189 people were tortured during police custody. Union Minister Nityanand Rai has also said in the Lok Sabha that the information is based on data from national human rights. As per this information, 136 people have lost their lives during police custody in 2018. In 2019, 112 people and in 2020, 100 people have been detained in police custody.

As per the information furnished by the Central Government, more than 542 people were tortured in police custody in 2018. Similarly, 411 people were tortured in 2019 and 236 in 2020. This information was given by Union Minister Nityanand Rai in response to a written question in Parliament.
