Flood situation improves in Assam, more than eleven thousand people affected

Guwahati: There has been a slight improvement in the flood situation in Assam and the number of people affected by this disaster has also come down in the state on Sunday. This information has been given in a bulletin of the Disaster Management Authority. The Bulletin issued by the Assam Pradesh Disaster Management Authority said that the floods in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Baksa districts have affected a total of 11,812 people on Sunday, while 13,300 people were affected by the floods a day earlier.

The authority further said that Lakhimpur is the worst hit, where 9,600 people have suffered the terror of floods. 1,912 people in Dhemaji and 300 in Baksa have been affected on Sunday. In the bulletin issued, it was told that the crop water spread in 31 villages and 1,630 hectare fields in the state has become waterlogged. It was said that Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark in Nimatighat of Jorhat and Tezpur in Sonitpur district. Apart from this, the tributaries Dhansiri and Jia Bharali are flowing above the danger mark at NT Road crossing of Numaligarh and Sonitpur in Golaghat district respectively.

According to the bulletin, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur district administration are running 7 relief camps, where 126 people have taken shelter. It further states that a total of 112 people have died in flood-related incidents in the state this year, out of which 26 people have died due to landslides. According to the bulletin, roads and other infrastructure have been broken in Lakhimpur district, while soil erosion has been seen in Sonitpur district.
