New Delhi: Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati met President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday. The meeting assumes importance amid the recent clashes with the Assam police. Last Monday, there was a bloody clash between Assam and Mizoram police forces in which 5 Assam Police personnel and one citizen have died. More than 50 others were injured.

The same Mizoram police have registered official cases against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, four senior officers of the state police, and two other officers in connection with the clash on the outskirts of Vairengte Nagar in Kolasib district. Mizoram Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) John N said that a case has been registered against the persons under sections including an attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy.
The Inspector-General of Police said that an FIR was lodged by the state police at Vairengte police station late on Monday night following violent clashes between Mizoram and Assam police force near Seemant Nagar. He also said that cases have also been filed against 200 unidentified Assam police personnel. Assam Police has summoned six Mizoram government officials including the superintendent of police and deputy commissioner of Kolasib district to appear before the Dholai police station on Monday.
