New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government at the Centre has directed eight eminent artists to vacate government bungalows by May 2. According to the report, these artists were allotted government accommodations years ago, but the allotment of these houses was cancelled in 2014.
It may be recalled that recently the government had initiated action to get Padma Shri awardee Odissi dance guru Mayadhar Raut to vacate his official residence. A day after this, the central government has now issued notices to eight other artists to vacate the government accommodation. A senior official of the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry said that even after giving several notices, eight of the 28 artists have not vacated their official accommodation so far.
An official told the media, "These eight artists have assured us that they are in the process of vacating their official bungalow and have sought a few more days' time. They have given us in writing that they will vacate the accommodation by May 2 and we have given them time till then.''
