Chandigarh: A controversy has erupted following allegations of converting Guru Ki Sarai into a mosque in Punjab's Patiala. The Hindu side alleged that the 'Guru's Sarai' has been made a mosque. At the same time, the Muslim side says that there was a mosque in this place 75 years ago, which has only been given a new look. According to the report, the Hindu side is saying that before the partition of the country, there used to be a Sikh family in this place. He also took care of the guru's inn. Later, the Muslims took away the place by threatening him. After some time, a mosque was built there.  

The Hindu side says that there was a Sikh symbol at that place earlier, which was removed and Islamic symbols were installed at that place. The dispute also went to court, where in 2017, the Muslim side could not prove that the place belonged to them. The court then ruled in favour of the Sikhs. Hindu organisations allege that namaz is now also offered at the guru's inn. According to reports, the place where the dispute is taking place is located in Gujranwala mohalla of Patiala. Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) claims that no permission has been taken by the Muslim side to convert Guru ki Sarai into a mosque. Local residents of Gujranwala mohalla and many people from the Sikh community are also telling the truth about this claim of the VHP. They have also demanded action against those who have made the Sarai a mosque.

The Muslim side in the case is led by Attar Hussain, president of the Gujranwala Masjid. Along with Islam Ali, he has issued a statement saying, "In this regard, we were asked for papers by the local SDM, which we have submitted. There was already a mosque in this locality. After the partition, many people living here had migrated to Pakistan. However, the Muslims present here had preserved the mosque as a heritage. Now the same mosque has been given a new shape. According to the report, SDM Rajpura Sanjeev Kumar is investigating the case. He heard their claims from both sides and also examined the documents given by them. On May 9, which comes to a decision in the case, he has called both sides once again with the documents.''
