Amritsar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Punjab met PM Narendra Modi in Delhi on Sunday and submitted a memorandum urging him to reopen the Kartarpur corridor before Guruparva. After this request, the centre is now also gearing up to open the corridor. According to sources, the government is considering reopening the Kartarpur corridor with certain conditions. The decision is seen as crucial in view of the Punjab elections.

Sources said talks are on between the Foreign and Home Ministries on security reasons. A small number of people can be allowed to go there by following corona protocol, including social distance, both doses of corona vaccine, RT-PCR test 72 hours ago. State that the Kartarpur corridor, which opened in November 2019, has been closed since March 2020 due to the corona epidemic. With elections proposed in Punjab early next year, the reopening of the corridor could also bring political gains. That is why Punjab Congress unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu and CM Charanjit Singh Channi have also demanded its opening.

Last week, Pakistan urged India to reopen the Kartarpur corridor and allow Sikh devotees to visit the holy site for the birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev. The 4 km long corridor provides a way for Indian Sikh devotees to visit Gurudwara Darbar Sahib and no visa is required to reach Karatpur Gurudwara in Pakistan during this yatra.
