BHOPAL: The ruling BJP on Friday slammed the grand old party for "remaining silent" on the matter after reports of two Congress MLAs from Madhya Pradesh being charged with abusing a female railway passenger came to light.
Speaking to the media, V.D. Sharma, the president of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, stated that "the condemnable act of two MLAs had displayed the actual face of the Congress."
Sharma questioned the Congress' silence on "this critical subject" as well. He claimed that while Congress preaches about empowering women and ensuring their safety and security, their MLAs are acting inappropriately against women. "The deed of two Congress MLAs has exposed their genuine face," claimed Sharma. "I want to question their leader Priyanka Gandhi what steps she would take to punish her party's legislators after she said Ladki Hun Lad Sakti Hun. I deplore this behaviour and am confident that the leadership of the Congress would take action against the two MLAs "said Sharma.
sources said, Kamal Nath, the state Congress chairman, has assembled a committee of three senior party figures to investigate the claims made against the MLAs. "Both MLAs have been requested by Kamal Nath to respond in writing to the accusations levelled against them. A committee has also been established to investigate the situation, "a Madhya Pradesh Congress source said.
Notably, MLA Siddarth Kushwaha comes from a political family and ran for mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Satna district as a candidate for the Congress. His father, Sukhilal Kushwaha, was a well-known OBC leader in Vidhya Pradesh who had beaten two former chief ministers, Virendra Kumar Saklecha and Arjun Singh (final term, February 14, 1988–January 23, 1989). (January 18,1978 to January 19, 1980).
Former Samajwadi Party MP (Satna), Sukhilal Kushwaha, committed suicide in 2015. Siddharth Kushwaha, his 33-year-old son, switched to the Congress and won the Satna constituency's assembly elections in 2018.
Suneel Saraf, another Congress MLA, is accused of abusing a female train passenger. From the Kotma assembly constituency, Saraf had won the 2018 elections for the assembly.
Stated MLA Kushwaha: "Sunil Saraf and I were travelling to Bhopal together. After boarding the train in Satna, the same woman asked me to switch seats for her because she was holding a small child, so I did as she asked. After eating, we politely asked her to join us for dinner. I'm baffled as to why the woman has made such serious accusations against my colleague MLA and me." In order to avoid disturbing anyone, Kushwaha said, he didn't even turn on the light in the compartment. "After the berth swap, there was no further conversation with the woman. When a police squad entered our compartment in Sagar, we learned about the accusation she had filed against us "Kushwaha said.
The MLA questioned how anyone could commit such a crime in the presence of fellow passengers, ticket inspectors, coach attendants, government railway police officers, etc.
When they were in a Rewanchal Express AC coach in the night of Thursday and Friday, the alleged occurrence was reported (Rewa to Bhopal). The woman said that the MLAs accosted her while driving, were intoxicated, and used foul language.
The woman's husband tweeted that his wife was riding a train from Rewa to Bhopal and that two extremely inebriated passengers in the same compartment were acting inappropriately with his wife. This prompted railway police to take action.
The FIR has been filed at the Sagar government railway police station under section 354 of the IPC, police sources said.
