LUCKNOW: During the monsoon session, which begins on September 19, one day will be set aside for women members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
Assembly speaker Satish Mahana said, the decision to set aside a day for female members was made in response to complaints that women MLAs aren't given enough opportunities to speak in the house.
"Yes, during the monsoon session, a day would be set aside for the female members. It was brought up during a discussion with the female MLAs that they weren't given the proper time to speak. Therefore, we will set aside a day for them so they can speak up and address their concerns, added Mahana.
During the monsoon session, the state assembly secretariat will also set up coffee vending machines for the members in the lobbies. When the house has lengthier sittings, the members typically need to go to PD Tandon (central hall) Hall for refreshments. Mahana said it would put coffee vending machines for the members in the state assembly's lobby.
Meanwhile, both the chambers of the Assembly have made arrangements to provide legislators with the option of attending sessions.
