New Delhi: Students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in the national capital have claimed that there has been an increase in more than 50 cases of dengue on the campus in the last 10 days. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has written a letter to the university administration, urging the authorities to take necessary steps, regarding the ongoing concerns over the crumbling infrastructure and lack of cleanliness in some parts of the campus, including the hostel premises.

In a letter sent to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Shantisree D Pandit, the ABVP said that there has been a huge increase in the cases of dengue and malaria. ABVP has said 'We would like to draw your attention to the important demands of the JNU student community, which should be considered and resolved at the earliest. More than 50 dengue cases have been registered in the last 10 days.'

The ABVP has written in its letter that, 'The increase in dengue cases has affected the students not only physically but also mentally. There are problems like insanitation, unhygienic hostel premises, moisture in roofs, water logging in balconies and hostel premises, the collapse of roofs etc. Drains are open at many places, due to which mosquito larvae are breeding. The student body has requested the administration to immediately start fogging all hostels.
