India is also called a young country. Because half the population here is over 25 years old. But the percentage of the population below 25 years is more than 45. According to the Sample Registration System-2018 prepared by the Registrar General of the Population Commission of India, the male population under the age of 25 in the country is 47.4 percent and the female population is 46.3 percent. However, the population of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala is higher than the national average in this age group.
The population of people below 25 years of age in Bihar is 57.2 percent. Therefore, Bihar can be called the youngest state in India. While there the fertility rate is the highest at 3.2 percent. Uttar Pradesh has a population of fewer than 25 years of age at 52.7 percent, while it is second in terms of fertility rate. The fertility rate there is 2.9 percent. Kerala ranks third in terms of fertility rate with 1.7 percent, where the population below 25 years is 37.4 percent. The fertility rate is determined on the basis of the average number of children per woman in a state. Due to lower fertility rate in an urban area than a rural area, there is less population below 25 years of age.
Apart from this, Bihar is on top in terms of birth rate. The birth rate is 26.2 percent compared to other states. On the other hand, Andaman and Nicobar have reached the bottom rung with 11.2 percent. In contrast, Chhattisgarh has the highest mortality rate of eight per cent, while the lowest in Delhi is 3.3 per cent. The birth rate is calculated per thousand population. There has been a significant reduction in mortality in India. While the death rate in India was 14.9 percent in the year 1971, it has come down to 6.2 percent in the year 2018.
