Rafael Nadal has made it seem doubtful that he will compete in the upcoming Laver Cup 2022, which will start on September 23 in London and feature players like Andy Murray, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic. Nadal's comment about the unpredictability of his schedule for the month came soon after he missed the chance to add a record-equaling fifth US Open title to his already impressive collection of 22 Grand Slam titles when he was defeated by a rampaging Frances Tiafoe in the round of 16 matches on Tuesday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Nadal, who had earlier this year announced his participation in the Laver Cup, entered the tournament at Flushing Meadows as one of the favourites despite having played just one match due to his prolonged recuperation from an abdominal tear he sustained at Wimbledon. But Daniil Medvedev's elimination from the competition by Nick Kyrgios happened just one night before Nadal's retirement.

After his defeat, Nadal admitted that he "doesn't know" the precise time of his comeback to the court, casting considerable doubt on his plan. Nadal said, "I need to go back [home], fix things and I don't know when I'm going to come back. When I feel ready mentally to compete again... I will do it".

"I have no idea about my schedule at the moment. There is more important things related to my personal life at home now. Personal life always much more important than my job. It's time to reset. It's been some tough months," he added. Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, and the other three Big Four competitors were chosen to represent Team Europe in the competition.
