The decision by the Joint Director and Head of the Department of Tribal Affairs, China Phom has also been termed as a humble step in relation to the concept and promotion of the rich traditional dress of several tribes of Nagaland.

The Naga people love color as is evident in the shawls designed and woven by women and in the headgear of both the sexes. One of the common features of Naga shawls is that the three pieces are woven separately and stitched together. The designs of shawls and wraparound garments (commonly called mekhlas) are different for men and women. Clothing patterns are traditional for each group, and the clothes are woven by women. They use beads in variety, abundance, and complexity in their jewelry, along with a wide range of materials, including glass, shell, stone, teeth or teeth, claws, horns, metal, bone, wood, seeds, hair, and fibers.
