Naqvi says population explosion 'problem of country', not religion

New Delhi: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, a BJP leader and former minister for minority affairs, claimed on Tuesday that the "population explosion" is a problem that affects the entire nation rather than just one particular faith.

"A population explosion is a challenge that no nation can afford to ignore. The majority of nations' effective population control efforts have produced favourable outcomes. The citizens of these nations have backed the efforts of their various governments and administrations to rein in the population growth.", Naqvi said.

In response to Shafiqur Rehman Barq of the Samajwadi Party saying that it is up to God to decide whether or not to have children, Naqvi replied, "The country's population explosion cannot be disregarded. On the subject of population control, some people desire to "create endless problems under the guise of Allah's kindness," adding that it is incorrect to link the population boom to caste or religion because it is a national issue, not a religious one.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, previously discussed the population boom during an event in Lucknow on Monday in honour of World Population Day.

India's population growth, according to Yogi Adityanath, is a result of a demographic imbalance. Adityanath made his remarks in response to a Monday UN report that predicted India's population would overtake China's by 2023.
