Hindi actress Nargis, who ruled millions of hearts with her acting and her husn in the world of cinema, was born on this day. Nargis ruled everyone's hearts with her performances and her delicacy in the Bollywood world. Nargis was born on June 1, 1929 in Calcutta, the then Bengal Presidency. Nargis Dutt's mother Jadanbai is said to have been a tawaif and had three children and the father of the three was different. Nargis father was Mohan Chand Uttam Chand ya Mohan Babu who later converted to Islam and became Abdul Rashid.

Nargis real name is said to have been Fatima Rashid. She worked in the 1935 film Khoj-e-Haq and was only 5 years old. After growing up, she worked in the 1942 film Tamanna and became famous after the same film. Nargis wanted to become a doctor and not an actress as a child but her dream could not be fulfilled. Nargis is said to have been addicted to Raj Kapoor for many years but Raj Kapoor did not marry him and left him.

Nargis was then stopped by Sunil Dutt and the two got a beinteha ishq from each other. The two then got married. Nargis was the first actress to receive the Padma Shri award and became a Rajya Sabha member. Nargis had cancer and passed away on May 3, 1981.
