National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has introduced an exciting way for Instagram users to delve into the wonders of the universe with a new augmented reality (AR) filter on the platform. This filter, part of a NASA project, brings the beauty of nebulas, galaxies, stars, and meteors right to your fingertips. Named the “Instagram Chandra” experience, it provides a unique view of the universe as captured by the Chandra X-ray Observatory and other space telescopes.

How to Use the NASA Instagram Filter:

Search for the Filter: Look for the “Instagram Chandra” experience on Instagram.

Choose Effects: Select the effects options and confirm your choices.

Save the Effect: After selecting, save the effect to your camera to use in your Instagram stories.

Try It Instantly: Alternatively, tap on the 'Try it' button for immediate access.

What’s Included in the NASA Instagram Filter:

This innovative Instagram feature allows users to incorporate elements like remnants of stars destroyed in massive supernova explosions, dense cosmic gas and dust, and other celestial phenomena into their selfies and videos. The AR filter was launched to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Chandra, NASA's flagship X-ray space telescope.

The filter provides 3D experiences based on models of celestial objects created from data collected by the Chandra X-ray Observatory and other telescopes. Users can view themselves through their phone cameras and listen to data transformed into sound using data sonifications, all through augmented reality.

About NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory:

NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory is a specialized telescope designed to detect X-ray emissions from extremely hot regions of the universe, such as exploded stars, clusters of galaxies, and matter around black holes. Chandra operates in a highly elliptical orbit around Earth at an altitude of up to 139,000 km (86,500 mi). The Chandra X-ray Center, hosted by the Smithsonian's Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, MA, processes and distributes data to scientists worldwide.

This new Instagram filter not only enhances public engagement with space science but also celebrates the significant contributions of the Chandra X-ray Observatory to our understanding of the universe.
