An FIR has been lodged against former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi in a caste certificate case in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh. The FIR was registered days after a government-appointed committee rejected his claim of being a tribal.
According to source, a high-level caste scrutiny committee set up by the state government had last week dismissed Ajit Jogi's claim of belonging to a Scheduled Tribe (ST) and cancelled his caste certificates. A case was then registered against Jogi. Bilaspur SP Prashant Agarwal said the case is under investigation. Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agarwal said, "The case was registered under Section 10-1 of Chhattisgarh Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes (Regulation of Certification of Social Status) Rules, 2013, on Thursday night. “We have registered a case and started investigating it,”
No arrests have been made in the case so far. This FIR was lodged by Tehsildar T.R.Bhardwaj of Bilaspur. Amit Jogi, son of Ajit Jogi, has said that the state government is acting in a vendetta. He also alleged that action is being taken against the opposition leaders at the behest of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. We will go to court on this matter.
For your information, BJP leader Sant Kumar Netam had complained to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes in 2001 that Jogi had described himself as a tribal on the basis of fake certificates.
