A person from Delhi has said in his petition that the word India should be removed by amending Article 1 of the Constitution. Article 1 says that India means India will be a union of states. The petition says that instead of amending it, the word India should be removed and Bharat or Hindustan should be changed. The petitioner says that the word India seems to symbolize slavery. The country should be recognized from its original and authentic name only.

The removal of the English name may be symbolic, but it will be a sign of pride in our nationality, especially in future generations. Replacing India with the word Bharat would justify the difficult participation of our ancestors in the freedom struggle. While referring to the debate in the Constituent Assembly on Article 1 then draft of the Constitution in the year 1948, the petition said that at that time there was a strong wave in favor of renaming the country to Bharat or 'Hindustan'. At a time when it's name also being changed to recognize our cities according to Indian beliefs, then this is the right time to recognize the country as its original and real name as Bharat.
