Pune: Pune's National Institute of Virology (NIV) has revealed a new Covid-19 variant B.1.1.28.2. The variant has been detected through Genome Sequencing of corona samples of international markets coming to India from the UK and Brazil.

According to the information, this new variant of corona virus (New Variant B.1.1.28.2) can cause serious symptoms in the person. The findings of the pathogenic evaluation increase the severity of the disease and point to the need to examine the effectiveness of the vaccine. The findings of the pre-print study have been published online on biorexive. However, according to an untested manuscript of a separate study conducted by the National Institute of Virology, the two-dose covacin resimen have helped a lot in boosting antibodies, and not only that, the vaccine has also neutralized efficacy against variants.

The study says that B.1.1.28.2 variant, body weight loss, viral replication in respiratory tract, lung wounds and severe lung deformities in infected Syrian hamster models. Genome Sequencing Labs are looking at mutants that have a great potential to seriously affect transmission of the disease. Under the INSACOG (Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genome Sequencing Consortium), 10 National Labs have sequenced about 30,000 samples.
