For your information, article 370 (3) empowers the President to deactivate the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir at any time. In the Lok Sabha elections in April-May, the BJP used this provision to fulfil the promise it had made and a Presidential Order was issued.

In accordance with Article 370 (3), the President may, by public notification, declare that this section will be inactive or activated with an exception and amendment. However, the scrapping of Section 370 requires a constitutional amendment under Article 368. But using Article 370(3), the Government cleverly bypassed the amendment route.
