National Panchayati Raj Day is being celebrated all over the country today. Only the Central or State Government cannot be able to run the entire country. Arrangements have also been made for the administration at the local level. The same system has been named Panchayati raj. Panchayati Raj consists of Gram Sabha at village level, Mandal Parishad at the block level, and Zilla Parishad at the district level. Members are elected to these institutions who take over the reins of governance at the grass-root level.

Character of Panchayati Raj:-
Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, used to say that if the villages of the country are in crisis, India will face a crisis. He had dreamt of strong and strong villages that would have been the backbone of India. He gave the concept of Gram Swaraj. He had said that panchayats should have all the powers. In order to fulfill Gandhiji's dream, the Constitution was amended in 1992 for the 73rd and the concept of The Panchayati Raj Institute was introduced. With the help of this law, more and more powers were given to the local bodies. He was given the power and responsibilities of economic development and social justice.

How does Panchayati Raj run?
In the early days, a Sarpanch was the most respected person in the village. Everyone listened to him. That is, at the village level, the Sarpanch had all the powers. But now elections are held at village, block, and district levels, and representatives are elected. There is a reservation in Panchayat for SC/ST and women. Panchayati Raj Institutions have been given a variety of powers so that they can function in a competent manner.

National Panchayati Raj Day:-
On April 24, 1993, the Constitution was amended to the 73rd. Since then that day is celebrated as National Panchayati Raj Day.
