GUWAHATI: Heatwave continues to prevail in several parts of the country, including North India. The weather remains dry amid the rise in temperature. At the same time, rain activity is continuing in many states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam. Recently, the weather in Assam has taken such a turn that the state has been badly damaged due to strong thunderstorms and heavy rains.

In Assam, several persons have lost their lives in rain, storm and lightning incidents in all the districts of the state. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 14 people have died so far due to natural calamities, thunderstorms and lightning in the state.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the weather had changed with thunderstorms and rain in several districts of the state on April 15. Several houses have been damaged in Goalpara, Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Nalbari districts of the state due to severe storm and heavy rains. At the same time, trees have fallen on the roads. Power lines were also damaged during the thunderstorm and supply was affected for some time. Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted that the rainfall will continue on April 17. According to the IMD, rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
