Amritsar: Congress leader and former minister in Punjab government Navjot Singh Sidhu has written to Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar seeking permission to visit Pakistan. Sidhu has sought permission from the government to attend the ceremony at the inauguration of the Kartarpur corridor in Pakistan. Sidhu has also sent a similar letter to Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh, in which he has also asked for permission to go to Pakistan.

Earlier, the Foreign Ministry had made it clear that it would be mandatory for Sidhu to get political approval to go to Pakistan. External Affairs Ministry spokesman Ravish Kumar, while answering a question on Sidhu accepting the invitation sent by Pak PM Imran Khan to attend the inauguration ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor on November 9, said, 'whom Pakistan called 'Wants', they have to get political approval."
