Amritsar: Amid speculations of growing factionalism in the Punjab unit of the Congress, former state minister Navjot Singh Sidhu again attacked CM Amarinder Singh last Tuesday alleging that his colleagues in the party were being threatened for speaking the truth. Sidhu's statement comes at a time when Congress MLA and former Indian hockey captain Pargat Singh had recently accused Punjab CM Amarinder Singh's political advisor Sandeep Sandhu of threatening him.
He had said that he was threatened after questioning the state government over the incident of cruelty to religious texts. Amarinder and Sidhu have publicly attacked each other over the probe into the indignity of religious texts. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had last month quashed the investigation report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police in the Kotakpura shooting case. The police had allegedly opened fire in 2015 on people protesting against the cruelty of religious texts in Kotakpura. Sidhu has accused Amarinder Singh of evading responsibility in the case.
Sidhu uploaded a video of Pargat Singh's press conference on his Twitter handle and wrote, "Ministers, MLA and MPs raising people's issues are strengthening the party, fulfilling their democratic duties and exercising their constitutional rights, but everyone who speaks the truth becomes your enemy. By threatening your party colleagues, you display your fear and insecurity".
