Amritsar: Former Punjab Congress unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is lodged in Patiala Central Jail, is in a state of disquiet. They are reported to have lodged a complaint against a fellow inmate for allegedly misusing the canteen card. Sidhu is serving a one-year jail term in a road rage case of 1988. The Supreme Court sentenced Sidhu in May 2022.
According to media reports, Sidhu's wife Dr Navjot Kaur has informed that he used to give his card to two fellow inmates to buy fruits. He further said that the limit of Rs 15,000 was met only a few days after the canteen card was recharged, due to which the complaint has been made. According to the report, Punjab DGP (Prisons) Harpreet Singh Sidhu has said, "Sidhu has told the jail authorities that a fellow inmate has misused his canteen card. The case was confirmed in this regard and the fellow inmate has been shifted from Sidhu's ward. However, he has dismissed reports of Sidhu having an argument with his fellow prisoner.'' The police officer said, "Shifting of prisoners is a normal prison routine. There has been no compromise with Sidhu's security.''
Punjab Jail Minister Harjot Singh Bains has denied reports of Sidhu's quarrel. According to the report, he said, "There has been no dispute. It's a 4-day-old case. Each prisoner is issued a card. Sidhu says the prisoner had taken ration for himself on his card. A legal notice will be issued to channels running such news.''
