Naxalites attack police in Saraikela of Jharkhand, 5 soldiers martyred

Saraikela: Naxals attacked police on Friday evening at Kukdu Weekly Haat in Tiruldih police station area near Chandil in the district. Five jawans including two ASI personnel were killed in the incident. The Naxalites first attacked the jawans with their arms and then resorted to firing. The Naxalites ran away by looting the weapons of the police. Police driver Sukhlal Kuda escaped into the forest and saved his life.

According to information, the slain jawans include ASI Manodhan Hasdan, ASI Govardhan Paswan, Constable Yudhisthir Maluwa, Constable Dhaneshwar Mahato and Constable Dibru Purti. According to eyewitnesses, the fleeing crooks were shouting slogans of Maoist Zindabad. The bodies of the jawans were lying on the road for two-and-a-half hours after the incident. The police officers could not muster the courage to go to the spot. The DIG-led force reached the spot at around 8 pm.

The incident is believed to have been carried out by the naxalite commander Maharaj Authentic's squad. This is the fourth attack by the squad in Saraikela-Kharsavan in the last one and a half months. On May 3, the Naxalites blew up Arjun Munda's election office. On May 21, three jawans were injured when an explosion took place near the Suru Irrigation Project in Hudangda. On May 28, an LRP team was blown up in a car blast in Kuchai-Kharsavan, in which 25 soldiers were injured. DGP KN Chaube has called a meeting of police officials late Friday night following the incident.
