Ratnagiri: In a tragedy that took place on Tuesday in Chiplun taluka's Rampur village, the sarpanch here committed suicide on her birthday. Shriya Raorane, the sarpanch of Rampur village, belonged to the Nationalist Congress Party. As per preliminary information provided by the Police, Shriya and her husband were not on very good terms and often fought with each other. On Tuesday, Shriya took the extreme step and took her own life. Tuesday, February 5, also happened to be Shriya's birthday. After one such domestic quarrel, an apparently frustrated Shriya drank poison.

When The nearby residents came to know about this, immediately informed the local police about this. The police immediately rushed to the spot and took Shriya to the hospital but the doctors pronounced her brought dead. The post mortem report revealed that she died due to the consumption of poison. Meanwhile, a preliminary complaint has been filed with the local police in the case. Also, no complaint has been filed by Shriya's parents regarding the incident.

According to reports, there were regular disagreements between Shriya and her husband. On the night of Shriya's birthday, there was yet again another fight that ensued between the couple that might have prompted Shriya to take the extreme step. Police are further investigating the case.
