NDRF teams on alert, storm threat on Maharashtra-Gujarat

New Delhi: After cyclonic storms in Bengal and Odisha, the coastal areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat are facing the threat of a storm. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the low-pressure area of the Arabian Sea has become active. The cyclonic storm that rises from it can knock on the coasts of North Maharashtra and South Gujarat between Harihareshwar and Daman in Raigad district of Maharashtra by June 3.

Coast Guard and NDRF alerts have been kept in Gujarat and Maharashtra. A warning has been issued to fishermen not to go near the beaches. Also, people are being instructed not to get out of homes. The meteorological department has issued a red alert for 48 hours in both the states. Government of Maharashtra and Gujarat have deployed teams of NDRF in the coastal areas in view of Cyclone Nisarga.

The NDRF teams in both states are fully prepared to deal with the threat of the storm. 15 teams of NDRF have been deployed in Maharashtra, with 3 teams in Mumbai and 2 teams in Palghar. While 2 teams have been deployed in Raigad. One team each of NDRF has been put on the alert mode in Thane, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg and Navi Mumbai. Apart from this, 4 teams have been placed on stand by. Coastal districts including Bhavnagar and Amreli have been kept on high alert due to the possibility of Nisarg cyclonic storm Nisarg in Gujarat.
