Neeraj Chopra is at it again, and goes on to make history, with a throw of 88.44 metres, Neeraj Chopra captured the Diamond Trophy, which is awarded annually to the champion of the Diamond League final. He is the first Indian to ever take home the coveted award.

Chopra, the current Olympic champion, had little trouble against a poor competition that was missing world champion Anderson Peters (because of injury) and Commonwealth Games champion Arshad Nadeem (due to not having enough points).

Before the massive throw in his second try, he committed a foul to start. Chopra had to wait a while before the results of the men's and women's javelin competition could be announced.

Before the javelin even landed, Chopra gave his typical look-back, yell, and raised index finger, giving the impression that the second throw was a good one. He then made throws of 88.00 metres, 86.11 metres, 87.00 metres, and 83.60 metres.

Chopra had delayed the start of his 2022 season by over a year following the Olympics. In the World Championships, he took home silver after Peters put on one of the all-time great performances. He missed the Commonwealth Games after picking up a slight strain during the World Championships.

Chopra had qualified for the Diamond League final by winning the leg of the competition held in Lausanne (becoming the first Indian to win a DL event) and placing second in the leg held in Stockholm (where he broke the national record).
