The reputed American magazine, Track and Field News has named Neeraj Chopra as the World’s best male javelin thrower of the year 2024. In last August, the athlete was beaten by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem for the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. To attain the top spot in the rankings, Neeraj left behind the two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Granada.
Neeraj secured a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 27 year- old could throw 89.45 m in comparison to Nadeem’s 92.97 m. However, Arshad Nadeem has competed in only one single event apart from the Olympics. He was ranked fifth by the magazine.
The Track and Field News magazine is one of the most renowned ones in the field of sport. It is based in the US state of California, having been found in the year 1948. The magazine publishes world and American rankings annually, being the influential source in the track and field sports fraternity. The magazine is often referred as the ‘Bible of the Sport’ being so prestigious, authentic and authoritative.
Neeraj Chopra’s biggest win in 2024 was at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland. He couldn’t win any Diamond league event of the year. He could secure second spot in Doha, Lausanne and Brussels. The magazine said, “Reigning leader Neeraj Chopra vs 2022’s winner Anderson Peters for the top spot was likewise not clear-cut. Chopra didn’t win any DL wins but was at 3-2, narrowly ahead of Peters.”
Peters stood third at the Paris Olympics. In the Diamond League he had three wins to his credit and was a spot ahead at the first position in Lausanne, Brussels and Zurich.
It is expected that Neeraj Chopra will be in the limelight, a major attraction at the World Javelin competition that will be held in India in September this year. The announcement of which was made by AFI President Adil Sumeriwalla at the Athletics Association of India’s General meeting.
Thus, Neeraj Chopra has sought another major accolade for India. Becoming the best in the sport, dominating the global athleticism. The star will come up with many more titles for the country!
