Government Mandates ISI Mark for Stainless Steel, Aluminium Utensils to Ensure Quality and Safety: In a bid to bolster consumer safety and uphold product quality standards, the Indian government has enforced new regulations requiring stainless steel and aluminium kitchen utensils to carry the ISI mark. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), issued a Quality Control Order on March 14, mandating the use of the ISI mark for these utensils.

The ISI mark, developed by BIS, serves as a hallmark of product quality and safety assurance. The order prohibits the manufacture, import, sale, distribution, storage, or display for sale of any stainless steel or aluminium utensils that do not bear this standard mark. Non-compliance with these regulations will lead to penalties, underscoring the government's commitment to protecting consumer interests and maintaining product integrity.

Recently, BIS has formulated comprehensive standards for kitchen items, including IS 14756:2022 for stainless steel and IS 1660:2024 for aluminium utensils. These standards encompass material requirements, design specifications, and performance parameters aimed at enhancing product reliability.

By mandating the ISI mark, the government aims to increase consumer confidence and encourage manufacturers to adopt best practices in producing kitchen utensils that meet national quality benchmarks.
