KOLKATA: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is all set to submit a charge sheet today, April 26, in a special court in Kolkata on the recovery of 81,000 detonators from West Bengal's Birbhum district 2022

Sources privy development said that a total of 8 persons might be named in the charge sheet. The charge sheet is being filed within three months time  since the NIA sleuths took up the investigation.

On June 30, 2022, a passenger van in the Muhammadbazar area  of Birbhum district had 81,000 detonators inside of it. The Special Task Force (STF) detectives of the state police were able to seize the detonators. The STF also detained three people, the first from the West Burdwan district's Raniganj region and the other two from the Murshidabad district's Dhuliyan area.

On September 29 of same year, the NIA assumed control of the inquiry. Later, the NIA detectives also detained two more suspects. Detonators are reportedly used often in Birbhum, which is home to a multitude of stone quarries. The detonators are employed to blast nearby stone blocks for usage in stone quarries.

But this was the first time that such a large number of detonators were found in the area. The fact that there was such a large amount raised questions in the minds of the detectives conducting the inquiry.

NIA simultaneously raided 17 locations including UP-MP
