Nine new animal species has been discovered in Himachal Pradesh

The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) has said in the year 2019, nine new animal species has been found in Himachal Pradesh. The nine new animlas dicovered includes a fish, two types of wasps, a caddisfly, a moth and four true bugs. One of the true bugs Pealius satakshiae, has been named after a high school student, Satakshi. Satakshi has first indicated the occurrence of this species in Chail wildlife sanctury and hence named after the student.

The fish Garra simbalbaraensis found in Simbalbara in Sirmaur district of the state has been named after the river Simbalbara. The new species of wasp has been named after the director of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Dr Kailash Chandra while another wasp has been named after the giant among the Pandava brothers in the epic Mahabharata as Isolia bhima. Apart from this nine species, the state has a record of discovery of five other species. This means , the species was already found some where else in the world but found for the first time in India.

This list includes a fly found in Nagar Castle in Kullu and two species of flies in Jubbal and an amoeba-like organism and a single-cell organism, found in Sangla valley. Among the discoveries in 2019 in India, one true bug found in Tamil Nadu was named after the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ZSI says in a period of ten years or the last decade has recorded 2500 species discovery in India.
