Nine TTP, Islamic State terrorists arrested in Pakistan

LAHORE: Nine terrorists from the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Islamic State (IS) militant groups were apprehended in separate intelligence-based operations in Punjab province, according to the official information.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police conducted more than 40 operations in different districts of the province late Saturday, arresting nine militants, according to Mansoor-ul-Haq Rana, senior superintendent of police in Punjab. He went on to say that the militants apprehended were planning terror attacks in the province.

As per the CTD, six terrorists were apprehended during the operation in Lahore, and the accused have been shifted to an undisclosed location for investigation. Separately, three militants were arrested in two separate raids in Punjab's Multan and Toba Tek Singh districts.

From their possession, police recovered a large cache of explosives, weapons, detonators, and sensitive material. The arrested were also involved in collecting donations to finance terror activities in Punjab, as well as distributing banned books to people and motivating them to join militant organizations, the police officials said.
