Nirav Modi has written to Enforcement Directorate (ED), the agency investigating the Punjab National Bank fraud, in which Nirav Modi is the prime accused. The multi-crore fraud is being jointly investigated by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and ED.

This comes after Modi had denied joining investigation in a reply to CBI mail to him.

Nirav Modi said that his passport has been revoked by the Passport Authority and he is being asked to come to India to join the investigation.

“Passport authority suspended my passport. Meanwhile, you asked me to join the probe. Wrote to Passport authority requesting it to provide me reasons for suspension & proposed revocation. Surprisingly, within minutes of my reply, authority revoked my passport,” wrote Modi in an email to ED.

He termed the whole investigation as pre-meditated and planned, citing the speedy investigation into the matter as the reason. He also claimed it as unlawful.

“The lightning speed in which the authority has acted clearly shows that the action itself was pre-determined & my fate was already decided, without even considering my reply and without any regard to the law,” as quoted from the e-mail.

Modi said that he is engaged in his businesses abroad.

“Still working abroad as I continue to be very engaged in trying to deal with businesses that I am involved with outside of India. Trying to ensure that so far as possible the position of these business creditors (including banks) and employees are properly considered,” said Nirav Modi.

So far, the investigating agencies have arrested several people in connection with the fraud including senior PNB officials.
